Jerry Deutsch has been a member of the NHA for over 20 years. He has been a Life member for over 10 years. He has served as a member of the Board of Directors for two terms in the late 1980s and early 1990s and rejoined the Board in 2005.

Jeff Novick, M.S., R.D., L.D./N. - Vice President

Jeff Novick is the director of nutrition at the world-renowned Pritikin Longevity Center in Aventura, Florida where he helps people make the transition to healthful eating. He holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Indiana State University in nutrition with minors in Exercise Science.

Mark Alan Epstein - Treasurer

Mark Alan Epstein is the President of the Flow group of companies. Mark is a computer scientist who has been in the investment management and technology industries for almost 20 years. After receiving a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.S. in Computer Science from The University of Chicago, Mark began designing and implementing a variety of technical trading and risk-management systems to price and trade derivatives portfolios. From 1993 to 1996, he was the Director of Research and Technology for an options market making group with traders in Chicago, London and Frankfurt.

John Nowakowski - Secretary

At the age of fifteen, John Nowakowski started cooking in local restaurants and clubs in Baltimore, Maryland. The various cooking methods and food presentations fascinated him as he rose to the challenge of turning out dishes that were not only pleasing to the eye but a treat for the palette as well. The results were totally imaginative productions of contrasting textures and color. It was no surprise that by the age of 24, he became the youngest executive chef in the Marriott Corporation. From 1978 to 1989, John traveled the country troubleshooting and participating in the grand openings of award-winning Marriott Hotels. In 1986, he had the good fortune to train under Roger Verges at his highly renowned restaurant, Moulin de Mougins, in southern France.

Joel Fuhrman, M.D. - Board Member

Joel Fuhrman, M.D., is a board-certified family physician in private practice in Flemington, New Jersey, who specializes in preventing and reversing disease through nutritional and natural methods. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and is an active staff member of Hunterdon Medical Center. Dr. Fuhrman provides nutritionally oriented medical care to patients as well as nutritional education to other physicians. As a former member of the US World Figure Skating Team, Dr. Fuhrman also has a strong interest in fitness and sports medicine.

Mark Huberman - Board Member

Mark Huberman has been a strict vegan vegetarian for all of his 52 years, and credits his excellent health to the Sheltonian diet upon which he was raised. He literally grew up with the Association, having attended his first annual conference with his parents Max and Ruth Huberman, in 1964 when he was 13 years old. He began his service to the NHA (then called the ANHS) as a national Board Member at age 18, and has served the Association for the past 29 years on just about every level.

Barbara Ferguson Kennedy - Board Member

Barbara Ferguson Kennedy gained extensive experience while employed as a journalist and editorial administrator for several national and international newspapers and magazines. Working the last 24 years as a journalist and bureau chief in Paris, London and now Washington, she has developed an expertise on Middle East affairs. She speaks French and Arabic.
