- On May 20, 1978, Dr. D. J. Scott, a renowned Hygienic practitioner and 1950 National College of Chiropractic (NCC) graduate, lectured on therapeutic fasting at his alma mater in Lombard, Illinois. With over five hours of insights, Dr. Scott shared his extensive experience, including using fasting to recover from acute appendicitis. Since 1957, he has run a Hygienic institution in Cleveland that specialized in fasting therapy. In his lecture, he discussed the science behind fasting, its physiological benefits such as enhanced elimination, healing, and life prolongation, and his methods for monitoring patient progress. He emphasized the importance of total rest and only consuming air and distilled water to achieve the fasting state, and shared his research linking blood toxin levels to the fasting process. Dr. Scott encouraged students to base therapeutic practices on normal physiology for optimal healing results.

- Revitalization refers to the restoration of health by enhancing organic functions at both the cellular and organ levels. Many individuals, despite having high vitality, experience a decline due to poor lifestyle choices that ignore biological design, leading to serious health issues like heart disease and cancer. Symptoms such as headaches and digestive disturbances often signal the body’s distress. Suppressing these symptoms with various substances may provide temporary relief, but ultimately contributes to further devitalization and disease progression. True revitalization requires adherence to biological laws and improving nutrition, excretion, and overall bodily functions. A focus on natural hygiene, including a raw fruit and vegetable diet, can significantly support revitalization. However, those with advanced health issues should seek professional guidance, especially during periods of cleansing and healing. The text emphasizes the necessity of fasting and the importance of making conscious, healthy lifestyle choices to foster genuine recovery and health.
Scott, D. (1980). Unfounded Fears of Fasting. Health Science – Official Journal of the American Natural Hygiene Society, Inc., V 3 Oct/Nov(No 4).
- Unfounded fears, particularly those related to fasting, stem from a lack of genuine knowledge and understanding. These fears can lead to beliefs and actions that negatively impact health, making individuals slaves to their misconceptions. Knowledge breeds confidence, which in turn shapes accurate beliefs and informs healthier choices. The mind operates like a large circle, where only inevitable distractions become the focus of attention, while others fade into the background. When individuals are preoccupied with distress, whether physical or emotional, it monopolizes their attention, often leading to unhealthy behaviors like overeating. This conditioning starts early in life, as caregivers may give food to soothe discomfort, creating a pattern where individuals turn to food or substances for relief. Consequently, this can result in a lifestyle overly focused on what goes into the body rather than addressing underlying issues, perpetuating a cycle of dependency and health problems.
