Maxime Sigouin, a vegan entrepreneur, and competitive athlete, takes center stage on this episode of the NHA Health Science Podcast, shedding light on his remarkable journey from a farm to a plant-based fitness enthusiast and coach.

A Farm Boy’s Transition to Veganism

Maxime’s journey to a plant-based lifestyle had humble beginnings. He grew up on a farm, surrounded by animals and living a typical rural life. The image of farm-fresh eggs and a robust diet that included meat was a common theme in his upbringing. However, his life took a significant turn when he ventured into bodybuilding to gain muscle and change his physique.

As his bodybuilding journey progressed, Maxime decided to explore modeling as well. This decision led him to a pivotal moment when his modeling agent advised him to lose weight and get into shape for photo shoots. This suggestion set the stage for Maxime’s transition to a vegan lifestyle.

Intriguingly, the catalyst for Maxime’s dietary transformation was the desire to lose weight quickly to meet the requirements of the modeling world.

He turned to Google for answers and stumbled upon veganism as a potential solution. Without much knowledge of veganism’s broader health benefits, Maxime decided to give it a try, replacing his animal-based breakfasts with plant-based alternatives.

In just one day, his breakfast went from a dozen eggs to a bowl of oatmeal with blueberries and peanut butter. Maxime also shifted his bodybuilding-oriented diet, which included three chicken breasts every two hours, to a more plant-focused regimen. A simple breakfast of frozen blueberries, dates, and bananas marked the beginning of his vegan journey over nine years ago.

The transition brought surprising changes to Maxime’s life. His breathing improved, his brain fog lifted, and he felt more alert and focused.

Little did he know that these changes were related to his newfound plant-based diet, which ultimately became the foundation of his passion and advocacy for a vegan lifestyle.

The Driving Force Behind Fit Vegan Coaching

Maxime’s journey took an emotional turn when his grandfather was diagnosed with cancer and tragically passed away. Watching his beloved family member suffer from this devastating illness was a turning point. It made Maxime realize that he wanted to make a difference by helping others avoid such hardships through the power of plant-based nutrition.

As he delved deeper into the world of plant-based living, Maxime met his ex-fiancée, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at 34 years of age. Determined to support her through this challenging journey, Maxime advocated for a whole food plant-based diet as part of her treatment plan. To their astonishment, her inflammatory markers improved, and her health began to turn around.

This experience deeply influenced Maxime, cementing his commitment to promoting plant-based living as a means of preventing illness and improving overall health. Tragically, his ex-fiancée ultimately passed away, but her battle with cancer further fueled his mission to help others transition to plant-based diets.

The Birth of Fit Vegan Coaching

Maxime’s journey continued as he faced the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, which disrupted his work in the corporate world and led him to explore online coaching. Fit Vegan Coaching was born out of the necessity to adapt and provide support in a changing landscape.
